This guide is for purchase confidence, not a hard limit. Dictivo checks the real Mac after install and can recommend a safer local tier.

Use the advisor first.

Select the closest MacBook family and memory size. If you are not sure, choose that option and start with the recommended safe model.

Recommended starting point

MacBook model Memory

Recommended starting point Strong local fit

MacBook Air M3 / M4 / M5 · 16 GB

This Mac is a strong fit for private local dictation. Start with the recommended model and try the quality option when accuracy matters more.

Start mode: Quality
Daily local model: Large v3 Turbo Q5
Try for quality: Large v3
Cloud Fast: Optional when speed matters more than local-only processing.

MacBook Air is quiet and capable; long recordings may still run warmer than on a MacBook Pro.

How to read the recommendation

Is this a guarantee?

No. It is a starting point. Dictivo checks the actual Mac after install before recommending a local tier.

Should I pick Cloud Fast on an older Mac?

Use Cloud Fast when speed matters more than keeping that recording local. Local mode remains available for sensitive audio.

What if I do not know my memory size?

Choose “I'm not sure.” Dictivo will still inspect the Mac locally when the app starts.

How Dictivo decides local model fit

Dictivo's Mac model recommendations are backed by a local calibration method that measures real-time factor and maps the result to Fast, Medium, and Quality local model tiers.

Read the Mac dictation benchmark method or hear the 25-second human-speech sample and inspect its actual output.
